ACNE

LASER TREATMENT

Acne and pimples are something that almost all of us experience to some degree throughout our lives. Unlike most other skin conditions that are limited to the areas covered by clothing, acne is often visible on the face and has serious emotional implications.

TREATMENT

Acne treatment in this case ranges from dietary changes and anchoring cream for the skin, to drug therapy (antibiotic or with isotretinoin (vitamin A acid preparation)).

Patients with moderate to severe acne suffer from poor body image, low self-esteem, social isolation and restriction of their activities.

LIGHT THERAPY FOR ACNE

An alternative additional therapy for acne is treatment using a diode laser.

In our Caresthetic practice we work with the Mediostar NextPro laser, which is an effective therapy against acne.

TREATMENT INTERVAL

3 to 5 treatments are required at intervals of one week.

What is acne?

Acne is a chronic inflammatory skin disease. Therapy targets the four factors responsible for the formation of lesions: increased sebum production, hyperkeratinization, colonization by Propionibacterium acnes and the resulting inflammatory response. Treatment goals include prevention of scarring, reduction of psychological morbidity, and resolution of lesions.

Acne vulgaris, also called “acne simplex”, is a skin disease that can occur, among other things, during puberty or later in life. Hormonal acne is caused by an overproduction of sebum by the sebaceous glands and excessive keratinization of the sebaceous gland follicles. Due to the resulting closure of the pores, bacteria can increasingly settle here. Male hormones play an important role in the development of pimples, which is why men are affected somewhat more often. In contrast to normal “pimples”, acne is more stubborn and persists longer in fixed areas. Affected areas of the body include acne on the face, acne on the chest, acne on the shoulders and back.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (acne inversa) is characterized by recurrent inflammation, pimples and abscesses in the groin, armpits or genital area. Acne inversa is a chronic disease. Typical localization under the armpits, breasts and in the groin area.

How can I prepare for laser treatment ?

Avoid taking antihistamines and painkillers immediately before your laser treatment.

Do not use peelings or products with vitamin A acid in the treatment area.

How does the treatment of acne with Mediostar diode laser work ?

The laser targets the underlying causes of acne, including bacterial colonization of the skin and hair follicles and high sebum production.

Light pulses are emitted which kill the acne-causing bacteria living in the skin. This reduces the inflamed sebaceous glands. The pustules disappear.

Acne is reduced in many patients after only a few treatments, which has been proven by numerous clinical studies. How often treatments need to be repeated remains to be decided in each individual case.
